*Taps the mic* – what do you want to hear from me?

Ahem – *taps the mic* – is there anybody out there? Are you still with me? – *checks the mic is plugged in to the mains* – seriously, have I left it too long? – *taps the mic*

Hello readers, it’s been a while. I’m back to writing again in the wake of…well, so many happenings, changes, moves and developments in my life, I’m not even sure where to start. I feel overwhelmed by how much there is to catch up on, yet at the same time filled with energy to share so much news. My return to blogging comes in the wake of a recent two week trip to Shanghai, China, which reaffirmed my want and need to share my experiences of the world with the world.

When I lived and worked in China from 2009-2012, I blogged at every chance I could find – I was known for it and my social media presence – where I’ve realised how it became a resource and tool for past, whilst feeding into future, research. From 2016-2018, I was so busy setting up a temporary life in Australia to undertake a new role as lecturer (teaching and research) whilst completing my PhD (yes, I am finally post-PhD), blogging barely, and regretfully, got a look in. Beyond functioning as a diary to help me process my experiences, it documents a world (my world) in progress.

So, as I boundary-span academia and being an Early Career Researcher, curator life, writing and reading (always writing), travels and being in transit (with an inability to sit still for too long), newly married life as “Dr-Mrs” (that’s another blog in itself), Amoy tiger tummy and the highs and lows of having a hidden health condition (HHC) – and everything else in between – I want to know what interests you over morning flat white or afternoon builders tea? What do you want to hear from me? Leave a comment below, email or tweet me!

  1. Hi Rachel, I have been following you on FB, too, so I am pretty much updated…. what I’d really like to hear about is your repatriation story / stories. I am 1 year 8 months into being a repat – can’t even say “recent expat” any more… would be happy to share my experience with you, too….

  2. Sooo good to read you! I want to hear about all the Dr-Mrs world, esp the recent Shanghai trip…

Are you passing through London at all? I have a Shanghai Sacred book with your name on.
