My New Yorker BXT (box of trust co-founder) friend ‘mk’ sent this to me earlier this week…some (slightly clichéd but I like them) rules to live by. 10 Guidelines to Acceptance of the Space Between:
- Do not make assumptions about what he/she is thinking or feeling; believe only what he/she has actually expressed.
- Do not speculate about where he/she is or what he/she is doing.
- Do not hope to hear from him/her, know that you will eventually.
- Do not fear the things cannot control, especially the future.
- Do not feel sorry for yourself and remember that he/she is suffering more than you.
- Do not forget the truth of who he/she is and why you fell in love with him/her.
- Do not judge him/her for doing what he/she thinks is right or for being human.
- Do not shirk your responsibilities because of emotional distress; they will actually keep you grounded.
- Do not be self-destructive; love yourself instead.
- Believe in his/her love for you and let it flow through you into the world.
