Thanks to Pierre on Twitter (and F.A.T. (Free Art and Technology)) for this Wednesday morning find. It is ‘Noisy Typewriter’ by Theo Watson, a free piece of software that turns your keyboard into old typewriter, basically making the typewriter key sound as you type. Very clever…and it reminds me of my degree show days of spending all day, every day with a my father’s typewriter ‘Gabriele’, typing statements on over 30,000 ruled index cards. A ritualistic, endurance task that I loved creating. One thing I must say is do not download this software and accidentally try it whilst blogging at the beginning of a formal conference. (Funny.) It is certainly not discreet but definitely brings a smile to my face every time I use it. Another digital reinvention like the USB typewriter I have written about before…you still can’t beat the original though.
