“Necessary isolation” – can I write here please? (Part II)

Just before going to sleep tonight after watching the film ‘Into the Wild’ (just so I could hear Eddie Vedder’s voice – no one quite like Eddie), I came across this architectural delight by Saunders Architecture. This is another place where I would love to go and write my PhD…I started this thread in another blog post last week and I reckon it’s going to continue on for many weeks and months. The opportunity to write here could quite possibly happen as it is an artists studio and residency program where the space shown below, ‘Squish Studio’, is found just outside the small town of Tilting on the Eastern end of Fogo Island, the largest of the offshore islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Applications open again in 2013 for artists, curators, writers and filmmakers where I’ll definitely be submitting one. Something else to add to my list of things to do during my 30th year. That list is getting BIG, international, adventurous and exciting.

The work of Saunders Architecture is pretty interesting. They have a definite in-house style of simplistic architectural minimalism standing out from rural and natural landscapes which I really like. The Shorefast Foundation and the Fogo Island Arts Corporation commissioned architect Todd Saunders to design a series of six artists’ studios on various Fogo Island locations with an aim to ‘preserve the Islanders’ traditions and aims at rejuvenating the island through the arts and culture.’ I’m sure I’d be architecturally inspired to write in this place…wouldn’t you? So please can I go and write my PhD thesis there…?
