Last week, after months of planning and a complete re-design, the new website for the Centre for Chinese Visual Arts (CCVA) was finally finished – take a look www.ccva.org.uk. The CCVA aims to foster new perspectives and expertise of both practical and theoretical studies on Chinese art, design and visual culture in an international context. Hosted by Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), Birmingham City University, the CCVA constructs an academic network, the CCVA International Partnership, including two leading art institutions in China, Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA) and China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou (CAA), for scholars, educators, artists and designers, from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK, bringing their expertise together to share, understand and innovate. It encourages and develops international and interdisciplinary collaborative research projects of Chinese visual arts, and offers academic support and joint supervision within the CCVA International Partnerships for postgraduate and research degree studies. Activities include curating exhibitions, organising, conferences and creating other opportunities for scholarly exchange and postdoctoral research…
As expected with these kind of web-based things, there were a few digital and technical hitches that we had to get past, but it was eventually live and online and fully loaded with links to social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and Weibo, and a brand new CCVA blog. In my new role as Coordinator, I will be responsible for the management of these new facets to the CCVA. The CCVA blog is ‘ Written by the academic board, staff and research students involved with the CCVA…brings together and cultivates new opinions, theories, musings, notions and questions regarding our understandings of how contemporary Chinese art, design and visual culture is positioned internationally and transculturally, from global, and local to local perspectives.’ So please, feel free to follow what we do, get involved and keep in touch…we would love to hear from you…
